Depends what you want to do with the server on which you install one of these operating systems. If it's web hosting, you could use Debian. If you want to host something else, it's also a Windows server.

Depends, most cases (for me at least) Debian would be a clear choice.

When it comes to a stable and secure service and application hosting always go for an up-to-date and well configured debian. You´ll most certainly need some basic knowledge to set this up though.

My choice is always linus, I suggest you Debian :)

Assuming you're talking about webhosting IPB, debian > Windows.
I use CentOS for anything and everything.

Only for specific stuff that needs very much user interaction I'd pick a Windows server.

Some things can only be used on windows server, but in most cases Debian is the best choice :) What are you going to do with this server?

Debain have some secures, example: debian not allowed login to root account.

I would prefer always linux, doesn't matter if Debian or Centos.

The thing I hate most of Windows are case insensitive in paths (i.e. "FOOBAR" = "foobar"), and I always prefer Linux for servers

I use to made an IIS on windows, and the case was sensitive B)
